What others are saying

“Our experience with Sam was fantastic. We found that the learning tasks organized for the week were engaging, creative and practical. Sam was enthusiastic and was able to get our son excited about going to “Sams School” each day. We can not Thank her enough for the opportunity to explore the Apogee Calgary trial!”

Janie Meldrum

I first learned of Apogee through Samantha Smith while I was expressing concern about the overpopulation of our current school, and the unfortunate policies that go along with it. Our children are being stifled and there are so many “rules” to abide by, that they just can’t keep up. She mentioned that she would be starting this type of schooling next September (2026) and it peaked my interest. Fast forward a few weeks and our teachers chose to go on strike. We were sent home for the foreseeable future. Samantha reached out to me to ask if my boys would like to try out a version of Apogee schooling during the strike. I was excited and curious to see how it would all play out. The boys were apprehensive of a “new” way of learning, however, by the end of the first day, they were sold. The freedom to think critically, use their logical reasoning and express their creativity was immediately recognized. Whether they understood or not, the difference in their demeanors and willingness to go to school in the morning was palpable. In their traditional schooling I ask “what was the best part of your day? Can you teach me anything you learned?” And I have never gotten more than an “I don’t know, can’t remember”. Every day with Apogee, the boys would argue about who got to share what, and couldn’t even wait to finish the car ride home to tell me everything that had happened that day, and all the “did you know?…” facts. I am so happy that they were able to experience even such a small amount of this type of learning. For them to see the options and opportunities that are out there for them was refreshing. We are hopeful that we can experience more in the near future, and that our boys are able to use their own strengths, skills and abilities to accomplish more, and feel free to create and thrive in an educational setting that allows them to do so.

A Day at Apogee Calgary

Each day at Apogee Calgary is intentionally crafted to engage both the heart and the mind:

Morning Huddle.

Our crews build solid relationships by holding daily socratic discussions to promote strong critical thinking and communication skills. They build solid relationships and set daily intentions to lead with purpose.

Core Learning.

Core academic skills of reading, writing and math are strongly developed through learning experiences that are practical, purposeful and presented in a real-world context. With this approach, our young leaders will deepen their knowledge of concepts and move their learning forward at their own fast pace, to personalize their academic journey.

Physical Fitness & Education.

Physical fitness and education is the foundation of our campus. Our younger crews have lots of physical play and movement, whilst our older leaders learn, practice and develop workouts, that incorporate the outdoors both on and off campus. All of our leaders learn about their physiology and the positive impact that being healthy and maintaining physical fitness has on strong mental health.

Real-World Projects & Experiences.

Throughout the year, our young leaders develop and apply their skills to complete practical projects that solve real-world problems. In doing so, our young leaders gain powerful experiences, insights and exposure to a variety of careers.

Community Leadership.

An important part of our program is leadership in our community. This is where our young leaders learn the value of volunteering and understand how to use their education to help others nearby and around the world.

Jobs & Responsibilities.

On a daily basis, our younger leaders understand the importance of jobs and responsibilities by helping to take care of our campus. Older leaders have greater responsibilities by exploring off-campus internships and apprenticeships with the possibility of earning money.

Daily Leader's Choice.

Every day, our young leaders have time to pour into themselves by improving their skills and acquiring knowledge in an area of their choice. Whether they're talented in sports, arts, technology, or love discovering new talents, we understand the value in pursuing personal interests.

Entrepreneurial Skills.

Our young leaders participate in an annual entrepreneur market by creating a product or service and learning the process of bringing it to market. This amazing opportunity allows young leaders to showcase their communication skills whilst learning and developing their marketing and business strategies.
